One of the most popular band to come out of the Brookings area was the Ride. They formed in 1969 and were the unofficial "house band" at Horatios . The Ride was the opening act for many of the national acts playing in the Midwest. They won a "Battle of the Bands" in 1970 and also cut a 45 record.
