Lyal Larsen operated a music store from his home in Lake Preston, South Dakota from 1956-1989. He didn't have a fancy place but he had a booming business, with customers traveling long distances to buy his products. He was one of the biggest Fender Guitar dealers for miles around. His house and garage were filled with guitars, amps, drums, and other equipment, both new and used.

The unique thing about Lyal is he would travel to ballrooms and dance halls, selling equipment out of his vehicle. Steve Ellis, Myron Lee, and the Cavaliers were just a few of his many loyal customers.
